Work Out and Get in Shape with Your Dog!

Wednesday, 3/3/10, 7:15 - 8:30 pm, $20

What a great way to bond with your dog! Learn exercises you can do with your own body weight to tone and strengthen your muscles, increase your endurance, and improve your balance! This class has been a sensational hit at Dog Days in Vancouver, and the handlers and dogs have gotten wonderful benefits from the class. People were driving from Portland to Vancouver to take this class!

All exercises have modifications for physical limitations. All fitness levels will be accommodated in order to give you a great workout.

In addition to exercises for you, you will also learn exercises for your dog to improve their body awareness, muscle strength and tone, better balance on all four feet, and decrease the chance of injury.

Stretching for handler and dog will be demonstrated along with an explanation of duration and how often to stretch.  Mats/medicine ball, therabands and weight will be provided. However, if you prefer to bring your own yoga mat and weights, please do.

Your investment is $20, in advance.  Space is limited to 6 participants, so please register soon! If there is enough interest in the class, it will be continued on a weekly basis.  www.pawsitive-performance.com

  Project Pooch 'Wish List' Collections

Although Project POOCH rents kennel space at a state facility,  they do not receive government funding so individual support is essential to their program. Any donation, no matter how small, makes a big difference!

Project Pooch's "Wish List" of items that they need in order to be successful in their program is listed below. We now have a collection box in our entry, along with a picture board with bios of the dogs that have graduated from the program & are ready for adoption. We hope to be able to make an impact in the lives of the people and dogs in this great program.  http://www.pooch.org/

Cat Adoption Team Cat Food Bank Collections

We are still collecting cat food and litter for the CAT (Cat Adoption Team) Cat Food Bank to help cat owners who needed assistance during the economic downturn affecting the country. News reports from across the country paint a depressing picture for pet owners - more pets are relinquished to shelters due to the rising cost of care and some pet owners are forced to feed their animals food directly from their own plate to keep expenses down. This first of its kind food bank is open once a month at CAT’s Sherwood shelter and provides enough cat/kitten food to feed up to four owned cats for a month.

We also have some lovely earrings, made by one of our favorite customers, Terry Vinocur, for sale.  All proceeds go to CAT for the Cat Food Bank. catadoptionteam.org/

PAW Team
Veterinary Services
for Portland’s Homeless Community

Food Donations

We are also collecting food for this group. We donated items from our Doggie Clothes Swap in May. When Chelle, the PAW Team Donations Manager, came to pick up the donatied goods, she said she usually has 500 pounds of food to distribute at their events, but this year she has only 50 pounds!  If your dog decides he/she doesn’t like their food any longer, pls. bring the remainder of the bag to us, and we will share it with the PAW Team.  Remember, animal companions are a lifeline for people experiencing homelessness, extreme poverty or income-limiting disabilities. To someone with few resources, a pet is a family member, a source of stability and unconditional love in a cold world. Caring for a pet helps people stay sober and drug-free. Keeping animals on the streets vaccinated and free of disease is also beneficial to the entire community. The PAW Team strives to make life a little bet better for these pets and their caregivers. At their free veterinary "street" clinics, they offer vaccinations and basic health care, pet food and supplies, and coupons for spay/neuter services. Local vet clinics assist with emergency services throughout the year. http://www.portlandanimalwelfareteam.org

And, last but not least ....

We truly appreciate your continued support in all we do in the community!

Without you we would not have made it to our 3rd anniversary.  To see what you, as one person, can do help a community visit the3_50project.net. The numbers are profound.
